External organizations regularly pay tribute to the achievements of National Bank and its subsidiaries and the competency of its employees. The following is a list of awards, distinctions and honours presented to the Bank and personnel:

2014

February 2014 – Canada’s Best Diversity Employers List
National Bank rewarded for a fourth consecutive year
As chosen by Mediacorp Canada Inc., this prestigious contest rewards Canadian companies that stand out through their efforts to create diverse, inclusive workplaces. One great example of National Bank's diversity initiatives is the fact that women fill 48.4% of senior management positions. Several internal networks established for women, the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and young employees are also very popular.

February 2014 – Montreal’s Top Employers List
National Bank ranked for a fourth consecutive year
Montreal's Top Employers List, a regional edition of Canada's Top 100 Employers presented annually by Toronto publisher Mediacorp Canada Inc., was created in 2006 to recognize Montreal-based businesses that offer an exceptional work environement. In addition to our corporate culture, social responsibility and financial strenght are also assets that helped set National Bank apart once again in this year's rankings.

January 2014 – Best Employers in Quebec List
National Bank recognized as the organization that has made the lisy the most times since it was first created
Conducted by Aon Hewitt, the opinion survey on which this ranking is based measures employee engagement and perception of senior management, the efficiency of human resources management, productivity boosting initiatives, as well as employee recognition and appreciation.

2013

November 2013 – Association of Fundraising Professionnals – Quebec Chapter Awards
National Bank recognized as Outstanding Enterprise of the Year in Philanthropy, more than 250 employees category
From among the many initiatives that led to the Bank receiving this award, the launch of the One for Youth regional committees undoubtedly highlighted the Bank's commitment in 2013. The approach of this program illustrates how inventive and hands-on National Bank's charitable efforts are. Our One for Youth program and the many promising projects to promote entrepreneurship, diversity and culture earned the Bank this recognition in this category.

July 2013 – StarMine Analyst Awards 2013
National Bank Financial Research Performance Recognized
National Bank Financial has been named among the Top 3 firms with the most award-winning analysts (13) in Canada according to the renowned StarMine Analyst Awards 2013 presented annually by Thomson Reuters. StarMine objectively measures the performance of analysts based on the returns of their buy-sell recommendations and the accuracy of their earnings estimates. Only analyst performance on companies that are based in Canada is included in the awards calculations.

June 2013 – Structured Products Americas Awards 2013
National Bank wins an award
For the second year in a row, National Bank, represented by its Structured Products Team, won an award in the Best Performance in Canada –  Notes sub-category for its Bespoke Notes Program. Organized by StructuredRetailProducts.com, this event recognizes excellence in the North American structured products industry. The winners were selected based on the measurable performance of their products using an extensive and exclusive reasearch database.

June 2013 – List of the world's best foreign exchange forecasters by Bloomberg
National Bank Financial ranked first among canadian financial institutions for its Canadian dollar echange rate forecasts
According to data from Bloomberg, National Bank Financial's Economics and Strategy Team rankek first among Canadian financial institutions and third in the world for Canadian dollar currency forecasts against the U.S dollar in the year ended March 31, 2013.

The ranking is calculated using Bloomberg’s Foreign Exchange Forecasts Center, which analyzes the projections produced by the various firms. Bloomberg has further perfected its methodology this year, making its unique analysis even more precise. The new procedure evaluates not only the precision of the forecasts, but also their timing and directional accuracy.

May 2013 – The World’s Strongest Banks List by Bloomberg Markets magazine
National Bank again ranks among the strongest banks in the world
National Bank has been named one of the 20 strongest banks in the world by internationally renowned  Bloomberg Markets magazine for the third year running.

Bloomberg based its ranking on the following five key criteria: (1) Tier 1 capital ratio; (2) non-performing assets to total assets; (3) loan loss reserves to non-performing assets; (4) stability, measured in terms of the ratio of deposits to funding; and (5) efficiency.

National Bank has made the list in 2013
The list of Best Employers for New Canadians recognizes employers who offer programs to assist new Canadians in making the transition to a new workplace and a new life in Canada.

February 2013 – New Carbon CareTM Certification
National Bank receives the very first Carbon CareTM certification awarded by Enviro-access
National Bank earns the carbon-neutral recognition, which is awarded to organizations that have offset all direct and indirect global greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions quantified in their inventory. The Carbon CareTM certification is aimed at private companies as well as financial institutions, academic institutions, and other public organizations.

February 2013 – Montreal’s Top Employers List
National Bank named for the third year in a row
Montreal's Top Employers List, a regional edition of Canada's Top 100 Employers presented annually by Toronto publisher Mediacorp Canada Inc., was created in 2006 to recognize Montreal-based businesses with exceptional practices, based on eight key areas including training and skills development, employee communications, performance management and community involvement.

National Bank is the only financial institution to be listed in the Entreprise category winners
Created in 2005 by Waterstone Human Capital, Canada's 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures™ program acknowledges those companies whose organizational culture has helped them enhance performance and sustain a competitive advantage. This is the third consecutive year the Bank has been included in this prestigious ranking.

November 2012 – Greater Toronto's Best Employers List for 2013
National Bank once again ranked among Greater Toronto's Best Employers
National Bank has been listed among Greater Toronto's Best Employers for the third year in a row. This prestigious list is compiled every year by Aon Hewitt, which recognizes businesses in the Greater Toronto Area that stand out for their human resources practices that engage employees.

October 2012 – 50 Best Employers in Canada List for 2013
National Bank once again ranked among 50 Best Employers in Canada
National Bank has been named to the list of the “50 Best Employers in Canada” for an eighth year. This prestigious list, which is compiled every year by Aon Hewitt, measures employee engagement across the country.

September 2012 – Structured Products Americas Awards 2012
National Bank wins two Structured Products Americas Awards
National Bank, represented by its Structured Products Team, won  Best Performance in Canada  at the  Structured Products Americas Awards 2012  held in Boston. The team also won in the sub-category  Best Performance – Notes. Organized by  StructuredRetailProducts.com, this event recognizes excellence in the North American structured products industry. The winners were selected based on the measurable performance of their products using an extensive research database.

July 2012 – List of the world's best foreign exchange forecasters by Bloomberg Markets magazine
National Bank Financial ranked as leading Canadian exchange forecaster in the world
National Bank Financial's Economics and Strategy group has once again earned distinction, this time making the list of the world's best foreign exchange forecasters, according to the prestigious Bloomberg Markets  magazine. The Economics and Strategy group took top spot for U.S. dollar to Canadian dollar currency exchange rate forecasting.

Bloomberg Markets'  ranking identifies the best foreign exchange forecasts in the world for each major currency pair, from the first quarter of 2011 through to the end of the second quarter of 2012. The ranking is based on the average margin of error, which is calculated using Bloomberg’s Foreign Exchange Forecasts function along with Bloomberg indexes that track historical forecasts of by the firms.

June 2012 – Best Canadian Brands 2012 edition
National Bank ranked 18th
National Bank has been listed among the 25 most valuable Canadian brands, ranking 18th in Interbrand’s 2012 edition of  Best Canadian Brands. Interbrand’s list has valued National Bank’s brand at $827 million.

National Bank has been named one of the strongest banks in the world, clinching fifth spot worldwide and third in North America according to the internationally renowned  Bloomberg Markets magazine.

Bloomberg ranked “The World’s Strongest Banks” based on five key criteria: (1) Tier 1 capital ratio: National Bank has one of the best ratios in the world; (2) non-performing assets to total assets, an aspect of risk management for which the Bank is widely recognized; (3) loan loss reserves to non-performing assets, an area in which the Bank outperforms its competitors in Canada; (4) stability, measured in terms of the ratio of deposits to funding; and (5) efficiency (costs to revenue), which the Bank is continually improving through such initiatives as its “One client, one bank” transformation.

February 2012 – Canadian Lipper Fund Awards
Four National Bank Securities Investment Solutions Win a Lipper Award
National Bank Securities won four awards at the Canadian Lipper Fund Awards gala. Lipper Awards recognize investment funds delivering consistently strong risk-adjusted returns in their respected categories. Each of the following funds won a Lipper Award:

  • Altamira Asia Pacific Fund, Investor Series (1-year period) in Asia Pacific Equity Class;
  • Omega Global Opportunities, Fund Advisor Series (1-year period) in Global Equity Class;
  • National Bank Small Cap Fund, Investor Series (3-year period) in Canadian Focused Small/Mid Cap Equity Class;
  • Altamira Resource Fund, Investor Series (10-year period) in Natural Resources Equity Class.

February 2012 – 2011 Énergia Contest
National Bank in in the Integrated Management category
The Energy Efficiency: Priority and Sustainable Process at National Bank project was recognized at the 22nd Énergia Contest organized by the Association québécoise pour la maîtrise de l’énergie (AQME). This project, presented by National Bank and Energenia, took home top honours in the Integrated Management category.

The objective of the Énergia Contest is to reward excellence in energy efficiency achievements in Quebec. The Integrated Management category highlights the long-term integrated planning efforts that businesses make to improve their energy efficiency activities.

February 2012 – Montreal’s Top Employers List
This is the second consecutive appearance on the list for National Bank
National Bank is among Montreal’s Top Employers, a regional edition of Canada’s Top 100 Employers presented annually by  Toronto publisher Mediacorp Canada Inc. The regional edition was created in 2006 to recognize Montreal-based businesses that offer an exceptional work environment.

This prestigious list compiled by Hewitt Associates recognizes companies that have implemented practices to strengthen employee engagement. National Bank has risen seven steps above last year’s ranking to the 41th position.

October 2011 – Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index
Carbon Disclosure Project recognizes National Bank as a leader in climate change information practices
National Bank has been featured in the Carbon Disclosure Project’s (CDP) Carbon Disclosure Leadership Index for the second consecutive year. The index is a key component of CDP’s annual Canada 200 report highlighting companies in the Canada 200 Index whose corporate governance has taken a professional approach to the disclosure of climate-change information. Companies are evaluated on the quality of their climate change information, with a high score indicating good internal data management and an understanding of climate-change related issues affecting the company.

October 2011 – 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures in Canada Program for 2011
National Bank finalist in the prestigious Canada’s 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures™ program
Created in 2005 by Waterstone Human Capital, the 10 Most Admired Corporate Cultures in Canada Program™ acknowledges those companies whose organizational cultures generate improved performance to give them a competitive edge. This is the second time the Bank has appeared in this annual program.

September 2011 – LEED® Certification
National Bank Branch in Lachine (Montreal) is certified LEED-CI Silver – interior design
The Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) Green Building Rating System encourages and accelerates global adoption of sustainable green building and development practices through the creation and implementation of universally understood and accepted tools and performance criteria. In Canada, the LEED certification is awarded by the Canada Green Building Council.

July 2011 – Top 1000 World Banks 2011
National Bank ranks 139th
National Bank ranks 139th on the prestigious list of Top 1000 World Banks produced annually by The Banker magazine. This benchmark list ranks the strength and stability of financial institutions around the world. Its main yardstick is Tier 1 capital in millions of dollars at the end of the most recent fiscal year.

July 2011 – 500 largest companies List
National Bank ranked 8th
National Bank ranked 8th on the annual list of the 500 largest companies in Quebec published by Les Affaires magazine. Rankings are based on the number of employees.

May 2011 – Structured Products House of the Year, Canada Award
National Bank wins Structured Products House of the Year, Canada Award
National Bank won the prestigious Structured Products House of the Year for Canada. Awarded by Structured Products magazine, an international publication, this award is the only one that recognizes excellence in the Canadian structured products industry.

April 2011 – Gala de reconnaissance en environnement et développement durable de Montréal  2011
National Bank a winner in business category
A project analyzing the energy efficiency of the National Bank Tower and its impact on greenhouse gas emissions presented in association with LSR Immobilier was recognized in the business category at the 5th annual Gala de reconnaissance en environnement et développement durable de Montréal. This event showcases the achievements of those Montreal businesses, institutions and non-profit organizations that conduct innovative projects in environmental protection.

April 2011 – 2011 OCTAS contest
National Bank a finalist in the online learning and knowledge management category
National Bank reached the finals in the prestigious 2011 OCTAS contest with its online e-campus internal training platform. Organized by the Réseau québécois ACTION TI since 1987, the OCTAS contest is the annual event and unique opportunity to reward excellence in Information Technology in Quebec.

National Bank is recognized as one of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers. This Canada-wide competition recognizes 45 employers that offer an inclusive workplace and stand out for their management practices and involvement with visible minorities, persons with disabilities, cultural communities and other groups. The annual list of Canada’s Best Diversity Employers is published by Mediacorp Canada Inc.

February 2011 – List of Quebec’s 150 most admired businesses
National Bank marks strong advance on Quebec list of 150 most admired businesses
National Bank has scored the most significant advance of all Quebec’s major financial institutions, as shown in the 2011 list of Quebec’s 150 Most Admired Businesses, published by Léger Marketing and Les Affaires. The Bank ranked 103rd, seven steps up from its 2010 ranking.

February 2011 - Canadian Lipper Fund Awards
National Bank Securities has been granted the Best Mixed Assets Fund Group Award.
Awarded for investment solutions delivering consistently strong risk-adjusted returns in their respected categories, Lipper Awards were also presented to National Bank Securities for the National Bank Small Cap Fund as well as the National Bank Growth Managed Portfolio.
Lipper Awards were received in the following categories:

  • Best Mixed Assets Fund Group (3-year period);

National Bank Financial Group recognized for its retirement education and awareness program

September 2010 - Heritage Emeritus Award, Commercial Category, presented by City of Montreal
National Bank Financial Group and the branch located at 7685 Centrale in LaSalle are honored
The main purpose of the Montreal Architectural Heritage Campaign is to honour owners who stand out for their efforts to protect and appreciate architectural heritage by keeping their buildings in good repair and restoring them with care. 

April 2010 - Solidaire award from Centraide of Greater Montreal
National Bank Financial Group honoured for its exceptional contribution to the Centraide campaign of Greater Montreal
National Bank Financial Group’s 2009 Centraide campaign raised $1,677,758 for Centraide of Greater Montreal - National donations to Centraide/United Way more than $2,770,000.

March 2010 - Diversity Award from the Montreal Jeune Chambre de commerce haïtienne
National Bank Financial Group recipient of the Diversity Award from the Montreal Jeune Chambre de commerce haïtienne at its 3rd
Excellence Gala.
The Diversity Award is given to a company that sets itself apart through inclusive human resources practices and also by the number of employees from cultural communities and their position in the organization. The company's commitment to the Haitian community is another aspect considered by the jury.

February 2010 – Canadian Lipper Fund Awards
Three National Bank Securities investment solutions stand out at the annual Lipper Fund Awards.
Honoured at the Canadian Lipper Fund Awards:

  • National Bank Income and Growth Managed Portfolio
  • National Bank Monthly Moderate Income Fund
  • Altamira Global Small Company Fund.

These three investment solutions posted superior risk-adjusted performances relative to their peers.

2009

September 2009 - top 50 investment funds available in Quebec 
Five National Bank Financial Group mutual funds ranked among the best
Five mutual funds offered by National Bank Securities Inc. have earned a spot on the first list of the top 50 investment funds available in Quebec, published in the September issue of Affaires Plus magazine. These five funds are listed below and the first three are managed by Natcan Investment Management Inc.

  • National Bank Mortgage Fund
  • National Bank Dividend Fund
  • National Bank Small Capitalization Fund
  • Omega Preferred Equity Fund
  • Meritage Balanced Portfolio

Selections were based on four criteria: long-term fund performance, the fund’s portfolio manager, risk/return ratio and fund accessibility for investors.

July 2009 -– “Top 1000 World Banks 2009”
National Bank Financial Group ranked 136th

National Bank Financial Group again recorded a strong showing with a ranking of 136th on the prestigious list of “Top 1000 World Banks” produced annually by The Banker magazine. This benchmark list ranks financial institutions throughout the world based on their strength and stability. Its main yardstick measures capital strength in millions of dollars based on Tier 1 capital at the end of the most recent fiscal year. This year, National Bank Financial Group improved its ranking significantly, jumping from 159th to 136th place in 2009.

July 2009 – Commerce magazine’s 500 largest companies
National Bank Financial Group ranked 12th in Quebec and 43rd in Canada

National Bank Financial Group was among the 500 largest companies in Quebec and Canada
in an annual review published by French-language business magazine Commerce. The Bank was ranked the 12th largest company in Quebec and 43th largest in Canada. The criteria used to determine rankings included the number of employees and the company’s total revenues, assets and earnings.

May 2009 – Hydro-Québec ENERGY WISE Competition
National Bank Financial Group honoured

During the awards ceremony for the ENERGY WISE Competition of Excellence, National Bank Financial Group was honoured for being one of the five businesses with the most projects in connection with the 2008 Empower Program. In fact, eleven branches were targeted for a project to improve their energy profile, resulting in a savings of 485,000 kWh.

April 2009 – Canadian Lipper Fund Awards

According to a Léger Marketing survey published in Commerce magazine, National Bank Financial Group ranked 105th among the 150 most admired companies in Quebec.

February 2009 – Finance et Investissement magazine’s top 25 in the financial industry
Louis Vachon the 6th most respected executive
Finance et Investissement magazine
spotlighted the top 25 executives in Quebec’s financial industry at the gala for the financial personality of the year. For the fifth consecutive year Louis Vachon, President and Chief Executive Officer, ranked 6th on the prestigious top-25 list.

January 2009 - 2008 Ted Rogers Award for Innovation
National Bank Financial Group receives an award
National Bank Financial Group received the 2008 Ted Rogers Award for Innovation in magazine content. The award recognized the quality of the information presented in the French-language Guide financier, a publication for physicians and pharmacist produced in partnership with the Financial Group and distributed through Actualité médicale and Actualité pharmaceutique.

National Bank ranked among the best employers for a 5th consecutive year

National Bank is particularly proud to be named to the list of the "50 Best Employers in Canada" for a 5th consecutive year. This list, compiled annually by Hewitt Associates in collaboration with Report on Business magazine and the daily La Presse, recognizes companies with human resources practices that strengthen employee commitment and engagement. The award is based on a survey of employees, business leaders and human resources professionals from the participating organizations.

2008 Grands Prix québécois de la qualité
National Bank’s Customer Relations Centres honoured
National Bank Financial Group is proud to have garnered an honourable mention at the 2008 Grands Prix québécois de la qualité in the large service company category.
The mention was awarded more specifically for the Group’s Customer Relations Centres, call centres where close to 700 employees answer clients’ questions concerning all the different products and services offered by the Financial Group. Presented by the Mouvement québécois de la qualité, the Grands Prix québécois de la qualité recognize and highlight the work of private companies and public organizations that strive for excellence. Awarded in accordance with stringent criteria comparable to those for such internationally renowned awards as the Deming prize in Japan, the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award in the United States and the European Quality Award, these distinctions are presented each year by the Premier of Quebec. The Mouvement québécois de la qualité is a not-for-profit organization whose mission is to contribute to the improvement of its member oganizations’ performance by facilitating the evaluation and integration of best management practices.

Once again, the Bank has been included among the 500 largest companies in Quebec and Canada in an annual review published by French-language business magazine Commerce. The Bank was ranked the 9th largest company in Quebec and 55th largest in Canada. The criteria used to determine rankings included the number of employees and the company’s total revenues, assets and earnings.

Distribution of structured products: the Bank stands out
Structured Products magazine’s 2008 American Awards for Excellence
The Bank's Financial Product Solutions Group received the Canada Distributor Award as part of the 2008 American Awards for Excellence from Structured Products magazine, an international monthly publication that is well-known in the derivatives products business. The National Bank team was recognized for showing the most innovation in building and distributing structured products. Clément Gignac to lead the
Association des économistes québécois (ASDEQ)
Clément Gignac, Chief Economist of National Bank and Senior Vice-President and Strategist at National Bank Financial, was named President of the Association des économistes québécois (ASDEQ), an organization with more than 700 members. By appointing him to lead this professional association through 2008-2009, his peers recognized his expertise and his reputation as National Bank Financial Group’s official spokesperson on economic matters. What’s more, his team is regularly ranked among the top three teams of economists in Canada according to the Brendan Wood International annual survey of Canadian fund managers. Created in 1975, the ASDEQ is a professional association dedicated to developing and disseminating economic knowledge, enhancing the status of economists in society and promoting their contribution as credible and sought-after spokespersons. The organization addresses the most common workplace and business concerns while maintaining close relationships with academia.

NBDB named the most improved online broker by Surviscor
Based on a mid-year evaluation of online brokers by consulting firm Surviscor, French-language business publication Les Affaires highlighted the dramatic improvement made by NBDB in the past year. NBDB now ranks 4th out of 16 in the Investor category, which accounts for close to 99% of direct brokerage clients, up four places from its summer 2007 results. According to Surviscor, a number of strengths helped NBDB climb up the rankings, including the presentation of account information, market intelligence tools, a fee structure adapted to different types of investors and prompt replies to e-mails.

2008 Lipper Fund Awards ceremony

National Bank is proud to announce that two of its subsidiaries, National Bank Securities and Altamira Investment Services, earned top honours at the 2008 Lipper Fund Awards ceremony on April 2. The Lipper Fund Awards program highlights funds that have excelled in delivering consistently strong risk-adjusted performance, relative to their peers. The Lipper Fund Awards are awarded to funds in 21 countries in Asia, Europe, and North America.

March 2008 - 150 most admired companies in Quebec
Commerce Magazine
National Bank fared very well in a Léger Marketing survey of the 150 most admired companies in Quebec, which was published in the March issue of the French-language business magazine Commerce. The survey, which was conducted between mid-December and early January, ranked the Bank 39th this year, compared to 77th last year. In a year marked by many challenges, these survey results show that our ongoing commitment to the clients and the communities we serve has not gone unnoticed. We can all be proud of this, especially considering the important role we play in Quebec. The Bank is not the only financial institution that bettered its position in 2008. In general, Quebecers appear to have a more positive view of banks than they did a year ago.

Finance et Investissement Magazine

The February issue of the French-language business magazine Finance et Investissement spotlighted the top 25 executives in Quebec’s financial industry and profiled the financial advisors who were honoured at the gala for the financial personality of the year. For the fourth consecutive year, Louis Vachon, President and Chief Executive Officer, and Charles Guay, Senior Vice-President – Wealth Management, were among the executives on the prestigious top 25 list. In addition, three out of the four advisors honoured by the publication are members of the National Bank team! Louis Paquet, Vice-President of the National Bank Financial branch in Quebec City, was named financial advisor emeritus in recognition of his long and distinguished career. Ginette Fortin, Manager – Wealth Management in the Mauricie, Bois-Francs and Sorel region, was designated as the advisor most involved in her community. André Charest, Vice-President and Assistant Manager at the National Bank Financial branch at Place Ville-Marie in Montreal, was one of the two advisors who tied for the title of advisor most respected by his peers.
