1 The Canadian Advantage 8 Plus GIC, Investors Category (the “Canadian Advantage 8 Plus GIC, simple interest”) and the Canadian Advantage 8 Plus GIC, Investors Category, compound interest (the “Canadian Advantage 8 Plus GIC, (Compound Interest)) are guaranteed investment certificates fully guaranteed at maturity and offer return potential over a 5-year term. The Canadian Advantage 8 Plus GIC, simple interest assures a Guaranteed Annual Interest and the Canadian Advantage 8 Plus GIC, Compound Interest assures a Guaranteed Interest. The Variable Interest of both Canadian Advantage 8 Plus GICs is based on the price return of 20 leading Canadian companies comprised in the Reference Portfolio. The Reference Portfolio return is an arithmetic average of the price return of the Reference Shares where each of the eight Reference Shares with the highest return will be allocated a fixed return of 45%, for the purpose of such calculation, notwithstanding the actual price return. The remaining twelve Reference Shares will be assigned their actual price returns. For the Canadian Advantage Plus GIC, simple interest, the sum of the Guaranteed Annual Interest paid throughout the term is then deducted from the return of the Reference Portfolio which determines the Variable Interest, subject to the Maximum Variable Interest. If the Reference Portfolio does not generate a positive return at maturity that is greater than the Guaranteed Annual Interest paid throughout the term, the Canadian Advantage 8 Plus GIC will not generate any Variable Interest and, in this case, no return other than the Guaranteed Annual Interest will be paid. For the Canadian Advantage 8 Plus GIC compound interest, no interest or any other amount will be paid during the term of the Canadian Advantage 8 Plus GIC, compound interest. Notwithstanding whether the Reference Portfolio Return is positive or not at maturity, the Canadian Advantage 8 Plus GIC, compound interest will generate the Guaranteed Interest. However, if the Reference Portfolio does not generate a positive price return at maturity that is greater than 5.10%, the Canadian Advantage 8 Plus GIC, compound interest will generate only the Guaranteed Interest in addition to the principal invested on the Issue Date.
Both of the Canadian Advantage 8 Plus GIC are not suitable for all types of investors and are subject to a number of risk factors. You should read the relevant Information Statement for more detailed risk disclosure and complete information on each of the Canadian Advantage 8 Plus GIC.
