National Bank and its clients generously support Quebec Breakfast Club and Breakfast Clubs of Canada for schoolchildren

Montreal, 20 February 2007 -

National Bank played a winning hand with its card game campaign to benefit breakfast clubs across Canada.  In just a few weeks, National Bank branches from coast to coast sold nearly 88,000 decks of cards and memory games in support of the Quebec Breakfast Club and Breakfast Clubs of Canada.  Proceeds from these sales, combined with a corporate donation, enabled the Bank to give a total of $300,000 to this worthy cause.

“We are particularly proud of our campaign this year, which was even more successful than last year,” said Michel Tremblay, Senior Vice-President – Personal Banking and Wealth Management at National Bank and Honorary President of the campaign. “Our clients and employees rallied to make sure that thousands of underprivileged children would start their school days with a nutritious meal and have a nourishing environment in which to learn.  We are thrilled to see how much this cause touched the hearts of the general public and would like to thank everyone for their support.”

“It’s great to see that memory and card games are still so popular with children,” said Daniel Germain, President and founder of the Quebec Breakfast Club. “The games sold will help children develop their observation skills, concentration and memory, while contributing to the well-being of underprivileged children who are just as eager to succeed. I would like to thank the management, employees and clients of National Bank for generously contributing to the success of this campaign.”

Last year, the Quebec Breakfast Club served over 2 million breakfasts to nearly 15,000 children in 201 schools across Quebec. Every morning, 2,500 volunteers greet them with a smile and a healthy meal before the school day begins. Breakfast Clubs of Canada helps 2,500 school feeding programs across the country provide 250,000 Canadian children with nutritious meals. This simple act will enable these children to start off their day well-nourished and ready to learn.
