National Bank and Théâtre PàP support suicide prevention in Montreal

Montreal, 1 May 2007 -

National Bank and Théâtre PàP are pleased to be making a joint donation of $20,000 to Suicide Action Montréal. This donation was made possible by the generous support of National Bank and some of its suppliers, and the proceeds from a benefit evening held at Théâtre PàP on April 12 and hosted by Gisèle Desrochers, Senior Vice-President – Human Resources and Operations at National Bank. For the event, Théâtre PàP presented a play about suicide by Jonathan Harnois entitled, Je voudrais me déposer la tête.  The funds raised will be given to Suicide Action Montréal, a suicide prevention organization in Greater Montreal.

“I am proud of the Bank’s commitment to such an important and serious cause. Through this gesture, we hope to help Suicide Action Montréal discourage young people from taking their own lives,” stated Ms. Desrochers.

In 2006, the Bank and its subsidiaries, through corporate donations, sponsorships, in-branch fundraising activities and various benefit events, gave $19.5 million to hundreds of Canadian education, health care, cultural and community organizations.

More information on the many causes and projects the Bank supports as part of its commitment to the communities it serves can be found in the Bank’s Social Responsibility Report on its website at www.nbc.ca.

Théâtre PàP (Petit à Petit), which has been led by artistic director Claude Poissant since its inception, will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2008. During that time, the theatre has introduced the public to many young playwrights and actors through its commitment to groundbreaking creative productions. The entire team is proud to be associated with this project and to donate a portion of its proceeds from the event.
