Jean-Luc Bélanger receives André-Bérard Award from National Bank

National Bank is proud to recognize and encourage Jean-Luc Bélanger’s social commitment by selecting him for the 2006-2007 André-Bérard Award, the highest honour in the Bank’s Our hearts are with you volunteer program for current and retired employees. Jean-Luc won the selection committee over with the extent of his involvement, the time he devotes to volunteering, the significance of his actions and initiatives and his drive.
Mr. Bélanger, a Commercial Banking Account Manager in Edmundston, New Brunswick, volunteers for Les Républicaines Sports Experts de la Cité des Jeunes, the region’s first girls hockey team, which he also founded more than 8 years ago.
“Volunteering plays an important role in my life,” explained Mr. Bélanger. “It’s a great honour for me to receive this award from the Bank. I’m proud to donate my time to young hockey players in the area and encourage them to play a sport that lets them grow and fulfill their potential.”
The prize, awarded as part of National Volunteer Week, includes a $5,000 donation from the Bank to Les Républicaines Sports Experts de la Cité des Jeunes, which will be used to help players buy much-needed hockey equipment.
The André-Bérard Award, created in honour of André Bérard, a former National Bank Chairman known for his community involvement, recognizes the remarkable volunteer work done by current and former Bank employees. It is part of the Our hearts are with you recognition program, which supports employees’ volunteer activities, rewards their efforts and enhances the impact of their actions with financial contributions to the organizations that are dear to their hearts.
In 2006, the Bank and its subsidiaries, through corporate donations, sponsorships, in-branch fundraising activities and various benefit events, gave $19.5 million to hundreds of Canadian education, health care, cultural and community organizations.
