Clara Ofelia Hoyos Lopez receives André-Bérard Award from National Bank Financial Group
Montreal, 7 May 2009 -
National Bank Financial Group is proud to recognize Clara Ofelia Hoyos Lopez’s social commitment by selecting her for the 2008-2009 edition of the André-Bérard Award, the highest honour in Financial Group’s “Our hearts are with you” volunteer program for current and retired employees.
A senior customer service representative at National Bank’s foreign exchange office in Sherbrooke, Ms. Hoyos is a volunteer in Sherbrooke with the Service d’aide aux Néo-Canadiens, an organization that welcomes new Canadians to the region and facilitates their socioeconomic and cultural integration.
Ms. Hoyos won the selection committee over with the extent of her involvement, the time she devotes to volunteering, the significance of her actions and initiatives as well as her drive. This award ties in with National Volunteer Week. Along with the award, National Bank Financial Group is making a donation of $5,000 to the Service d’aide aux Néo-Canadiens de Sherbrooke.
“I’m pleased to be able to give just a small part of what I received when I arrived in Quebec, and I’m proud to be able to help newcomers who often arrive with very little.” explained Ms. Hoyos. Louise Carrier from Service d’aide aux Néo-Canadiens elaborated, “I have great admiration for Clara, for her generosity and commitment. She’s a role model when it comes to helping others, giving much more of herself than one would normally expect.”
The André-Bérard Award, created in honour of André Bérard, a former National Bank President known for his community involvement, recognizes the remarkable volunteer work done by our current and former employees. It is part of the “Our hearts are with you” recognition program, which supports employees’ volunteer activities, rewards their efforts, and enhances the impact of their actions with financial contributions to the organizations that are dear to their hearts.
In 2008, through its donations and sponsorships program and the initiatives of its employees, National Bank Financial Group helped support hundreds of organizations across Canada. It focuses primarily on four main areas of activity – health, education, arts and culture, and community outreach – with the goal of generating positive spinoffs for communities.
