National Bank Financial Group Presents the André-Bérard Award to Yannick Munger

Montreal, 22 April 2010 -

National Bank Financial Group is proud to recognize Yannick Munger's community involvement and social commitment by presenting him with the 2009-2010 edition of the André-Bérard Award, the highest honour bestowed on participants of the Financial Group's volunteer program for current and retired employees.

Yannick Munger, advisor at the Organizational Performance Centre in Montreal, has been helping children suffering from cancer since he was nine years old. Each summer, he spends a week as camp counselor at the Leucan Summer Camp. He is also a member of the Heart-filled Hope Support Group for teenagers suffering from cancer and their siblings.

As part of his involvement in this cause, Mr. Munger wanted to help families dealing with this disease even more by ensuring that the camps organized for their children are safe and well-run. So, he participated in the creation of the Canadian Association of Pediatric Oncology Camps (CAPOC), a country-wide association devoted to maintaining the quality of camps hosting children suffering from cancer.

The jury was won over by Mr. Munger's selflessness, generosity, and sustained commitment to a number of organizations. The André-Bérard Award, as part of Volunteer Week, also includes a $5,000 donation from National Bank Financial Group to the Canadian Association of Pediatric Oncology Camps.

Among the finalists, two other volunteers impressed the jury and got a special mention and a $2,000 donation to their cause:

Catherine Coates, advisor – Personal Finances, Orillia, Ontario branch.
Catherine is an avid knitter and seamstress, and makes blankets for the less fortunate. With her needles and thread, she has become the centre of a network producing and distributing blankets that is affiliated with Mental Health Services at Orillia Soldiers Memorial Hospital.

Maurice Dupont, a National Bank Financial retiree from Laval, is founder of La Fondation Gemini, an organization helping mothers-to-be and children from underprivileged families in the area. Mr. Dupont, a Laval veteran in the field of securities, has effectively rallied others to the cause. His charity golf tournament, and the foundation's main source of funding, L'Omnium Maurice Dupont, brought in $4,000 in its first year, in 1993, and $80,000 last year.

"On behalf of management at National Bank Financial Group, I'd like to congratulate all our finalists—caring individuals who devote time and energy to causes they believe in. You are an inspiration to all National Bank Financial Group employees," declared Louis Vachon, National Bank Financial Group President and CEO, during the Annual Meeting of Employees.

The André-Bérard Award, named in honour of a former National Bank President known for his community involvement, recognizes employees and retirees who have made a significant contribution through their volunteer activities.  It is part of the "Our hearts are with you" recognition program, which supports employee volunteer activities, rewards their efforts, and enhances the impact of their actions with financial contributions to the organizations that are near and dear to their hearts.

Every year, through its donations and sponsorships program and the initiatives of its employees, National Bank Financial Group helps support hundreds of organizations across Canada. It focuses primarily on four main areas of activity – health, education, arts and culture, and community outreach – with the goal of generating positive benefits for communities.
