First edition of Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation Urban Duathlon set to launch - The business community's fun and friendly challenge
Montreal, 6 June 2011 -
Get ready for a new Montreal tradition! The very first edition of the Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation Urban Duathlon is set to take place on Wednesday, June 8, 2011. Close to 350 people from the business, media and sports communities will let loose and take part in a BIXI bike and running relay race at Dorchester Square in downtown Montreal.
The friendly competition - presented by National Bank Financial Group and organized by the Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation's Young Leaders Circle - is looking to raise $100,000 to help fund the hospital's priority needs in perinatal care. The fundraising event is the perfect opportunity for business people, entrepreneurs, partners and citizens to band together, pool their energy and financial contributions and rally around the cause of children. Rythme FM Montréal and CKOI radio personality Mathieu Roy will host the festivities.
Some 87 three-person teams, consisting of two "bixicyclists" and one runner, have each raised at least $750 to register for the event. Participants are eligible to win a trip to Club Med, a pair of tickets to anywhere Porter Airlines flies… plus many other exciting participation prizes. Caroline Brunet, Quebec athlete and five-time Olympian in kayaking, will start-off the race.
Three Challenges - Three Jackets
The Urban Duathlon is actually 3 challenges all rolled into one. In order to win the event's coveted award jackets teams must:
1. Raise the most funds for the Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation (Yellow Jacket Challenge)
2. Finish the relay race with the fastest time (Green Jacket Challenge)
3. Wear the funniest and most original jacket-shirt-and-tie or suit-and-blouse combos (Polka Dot Jacket Challenge)
Sainte-Justine UHC Foundation Urban Duathlon Organizing Committee chairman and Managing Director of the Financial Products Solutions Group, National Bank Financial Group, François Rivard, invites everyone to help any way they can. "I encourage the public to support our cause by going to www.duathlonurbain.org and making an online donation and to stop by Dorchester Square at lunchtime on June 8 to cheer on our participants who'll be riding BIXI bikes or running for the love of children," he said.
This event is made possible thanks to financial support from National Bank Financial Group as well as other generous sponsors and contributors.
