National Bank invites you to the Granby National Bank Challenger’s first mixed tournament
Granby, 7 July 2011 -
National Bank is proud to be part of the 16th edition of the Granby National Bank Challenger. This year, for the first time in the tennis tournament’s history, the event will be mixed. National Bank invites you to attend this milestone event between July 9 and 17, 2011 at the St-Luc courts of the Club de tennis des Loisirs de Granby, located at 90 Langlois Street.
The Granby Challenger now stands out among professional tennis tournaments as one of the few competitions that welcomes both male and female athletes. Stéphanie Dubois, a Quebecer currently ranked 124th by the Women’s Tennis Association, will be present, as will several other players on the international women’s circuit. On the men’s side, the tournament will feature four players ranked among the world’s top 100 by the Association of Tennis Professionals. These are Dudi Sela from Israel (84th), Michael Russell from the United States (90th), Nicolas Mahut from France (94th) and Matthias Bachinger from Germany (98th). France’s Arnaud Clément, a former top-10 player, will also be attending. With these top-notch players, the tournament promises to be a smash.
As a longstanding sponsor of tennis, National Bank supports numerous organizations in Quebec and Ontario. This association with the Granby Challenger comes under the Bank’s sports sponsorship program, which aims to promote excellence, determination and the training and development of professional and amateur athletes. National Bank is proud to support this unique event that brings together athletes and enthusiasts from around the world.
In addition, National Bank will be pursuing its used tennis ball recovery program, currently in its fifth year. Under the program, donated tennis balls are distributed to various Quebec school boards to be placed on the legs of students’ chairs. This initiative, undertaken in response to a real need expressed by local schools, seeks to reduce classroom noise and promote a better learning environment for children.
National Bank will have a special team and booth on site from July 9 to 17 to collect used tennis balls. Those who drop balls off can have a chance to win various instant prizes and will be eligible for the grand prize draw. For more information, consult www.nbc.ca/recycling.
In 2010, over 18,000 tennis balls were distributed to 26 Montérégie-area schools. To date, more than 375,000 tennis balls have been recovered and distributed throughout Quebec. In addition to helping protect the environment, distributing the collected tennis balls benefitted countless students and teachers.
