National Bank Donates $30,000 to the Fondation Le Grand Chemin to Help Maintain Free Services to Young People
Montreal, 21 November 2011 -
As part of Drug Awareness Week, the Fondation Le Grand Chemin is pleased to announce that National Bank will be donating $30,000 over a three-year period. This will enable the Fondation to maintain its free services to young people. The Fondation Le Grand Chemin operates three centres in Quebec City, Montreal and Saint-Célestin, in the Mauricie and Centre-du-Québec regions, which provide free treatment for young people aged 12 to 17 who are struggling with alcohol, drug or gambling addiction.
“This is National Bank’s first financial contribution to the Fondation Le Grand Chemin, and we are extremely grateful,” stated Luc Gervais, the foundation’s General Manager. “We’re happy to see major corporations like National Bank stepping up to support our cause. Often, life has been a struggle for the young people who arrive at our three centres, and contributions to the cause show them that they are valued. Others’ willingness to invest in their potential gives them the courage to persevere and overcome their addiction. We hope that National Bank’s donation will encourage other major partners to join in the fight against alcohol and drug addiction.”
“By helping these teens conquer their addiction, the Fondation is not just helping them to recover, it’s also providing them with the tools they need to achieve their full potential. This cause is important to us, and reflects the Bank’s commitment to youth,” said Geneviève Trottier, Senior Manager – Events and Community Relations, National Bank.
This first fundraising campaign launched by the Fondation Le Grand Chemin is intended to better deal with the problem of alcohol and drug abuse, which is a major issue among youth of high-school age. Young people currently wait at least a month and a half to enter rehabilitation centres like those operated by Grand Chemin.
Thanks to National Bank’s donation, the specialized centres for youth will be able to maintain their free services, which include comprehensive individual therapy lasting 8 to 10 weeks for teens in need. This amount will also help fund a four month follow-up program and provide support for families during the treatment period.
