Health through prevention and research

At National Bank we believe that a better understanding of physical and mental troubles begins with financial support for research and for public-awareness and prevention campaigns.

The Montreal Children’s Hospital Foundation

National Bank wants to help make sure children are born and grow up in a healthy way. Through its $1.5 million donation, the Bank has helped create the National Bank Financial Group research unit on congenital defects at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre. The research unit will be studying the role of genetics in causing congenital defects and how the environment and genes interact to alter normal embryonic development.

Sainte-Justine’s University Hospital Center Foundation

National Bank wants to provide hope to parents of sick children. By financially contributing to setting up the National Bank Financial Group applied clinical research unit, we have the privilege of participating in the development of new diagnostic strategies and treatments as well as prevention through clinical research. Our donation of $1.25 million allows for the setting up of infrastructure serving scientists and clinical researchers at the Sainte-Justine university hospital center, allowing them to gain a better understanding of the diverse health problems faced by children, adolescents and mothers.

Mental Illness Foundation

National Bank has become associated with the Mental Illness Foundation. The Financial Group has cooperated on setting up an awareness program to help young persons recognize the precursor signs of depression, and to participate in raising awareness about mental health problems in the workplace.

Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation

For over seven years now, National Bank and several of its employees across Canada have been involved with the Diabetes Research Foundation in its search for a cure for diabetes. In addition to the institutional donation, Bank employees are participating in the Ride for Diabetes Research, a stationary-bike event in which teams of five riders raise funds for the cause. In 2010, they raised over $340,000.

Southlake Regional Health Centre

With the increase in cancer cases throughout the country, National Bank is happy to contribute $50,000 to support the activities of a treatment and prevention program attached to the Southlake Regional Health Centre.

Montreal Neurological Institute and Hospital

National Bank is proud to be financing postdoctoral research in experimental therapeutics to better understand the development, evolution and treatment of neurological illnesses and troubles. The Bank’s $500,000 contribution is being used to develop new therapies for diseases such as Ataxia, Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s.
