Education as a starting point
The desire to learn has to be encouraged and cultivated from kindergarten through post-secondary studies. This is why our support for the education sector is formulated as a series of positive actions that aim, first to counteract dropping out, and then to elicit a passion for learning. When young people succeed, society as a whole succeeds.
Breakfast Clubs of Canada and Club des petits déjeuners du Québec
In Canada, one out of ten children lives below the poverty line and is likely to start the day on an empty stomach. National Bank’s tangible support for these Clubs makes it possible for hundreds of thousands of children to arrive at school alert and ready for learning because they have a full and satisfied stomach. Since 2005, National Bank has helped raise close to $2.4 million for the Clubs through the sale of exclusive articles in its branches across Canada.
Junior Achievement (Jeunes Entreprises du Québec)
By initiating adolescents and young adults into the world of business, Québec Junior Achievement allows groups of young people to launch and run their own companies. National Bank is proud to be giving tomorrow’s entrepreneurs a head start by contributing to student business.
Literacy Foundation
Knowing how to read is an essential part of the development and autonomy of any person and of that person’s eventual contribution to society. It’s in this spirit that National Bank supports the Literacy Foundation. The Bank’s financial contribution has allowed the Literacy Foundation to finance The Gift of Reading, a program that provides new books to needy children, and which aims to prepare children for learning through reading at a young age. Under this program, the Foundation distributed over 30,000 books last year.
Children’s Aid Foundation
National Bank is happy to support the Children’s Aid Foundation, a pan Canadian organization whose mission is to give kids who may have had a bad start in life, the tools that they need for a future full of hope. Thanks to the Bank’s financial support, this organization will provide young adults with the ability to find their way back to studies, regain their confidence, to develop their full potential and become happy and productive members of society.
Encouraging post-secondary studies
Through the establishment of scholarships, and in partnership with a number of Canadian universities and colleges, National Bank supports post-secondary academic studies. The Bank is proud to count among its partners the Université de Montréal, UQAM, Université Laval, Concordia University, McGill University, HEC Montréal, Ottawa, MonctonUniversity, UQAR and the Collège universitaire Saint-Boniface.
