About MasterCard SecureCode

What is MasterCard SecureCode?
MasterCard SecureCode is a new service from MasterCard and your card issuer that offers added security and protection against unauthorized use of your registered MasterCard credit card when you shop online at participating merchants.
How does MasterCard SecureCode work?
Every time you use your SecureCode-registered MasterCard to make an online purchase at a participating merchant, a window automatically pops up asking for your SecureCode. When you correctly enter your SecureCode, your card issuer confirms that you are the authorized cardholder and your purchase is completed.
How does MasterCard SecureCode protect me?
When you correctly enter your SecureCode during an online purchase at a participating merchant, you confirm that you are the authorized cardholder and your purchase is then completed. If the correct SecureCode is not entered, the purchase will not go through. So even if someone knew your card number, they would not be able to use your MasterCard credit card with that merchant.
Is MasterCard SecureCode easy to use?
Yes. When you make an online purchase from a participating merchant, a pop-up window from your card issuer automatically appears and prompts you for your SecureCode. After reviewing the details of your purchase and confirming that your Personal Greeting (see "What is a Personal Greeting?") is correct, simply enter your SecureCode to complete the transaction.
Will I need to get a new card to use MasterCard SecureCode?
No, there is no need to get a new card. MasterCard SecureCode works with your existing card.
What are the computer requirements for MasterCard SecureCode?
MasterCard SecureCode works with most Internet browsers. However, you should disable any software that prevents pop-up windows as this will interfere with your use of SecureCode. You should also make sure that Java Script is enabled.
Can I use MasterCard SecureCode from any computer?
Yes. There's no special software to install, so you can shop from any computer and still receive the added protection provided by MasterCard SecureCode.
What happens if my card expires or my billing information changes?
Your SecureCode profile does not require any change.
What happens when my cancelled card gets replaced by a new card with a different card number?
The SecureCode associated with the cancelled card is automatically cancelled. To register your new card, you must return to the MasterCard SecureCode registration site and create a new SecureCode.
Registering for MasterCard SecureCode

Can two people with a joint account use the same SecureCode or should they register separately?
Each person has to register separately and create his/her own unique SecureCode.
Why do I have to supply personal information during registration?
The personal information you provide is checked against the information we have on file to confirm that you are the authorized cardholder. Your personal information as well as your SecureCode will never be shared with the merchant or other parties.
Why do I have to enter all of my personal information again when I register a second card?
The process is the same as the registration for your first card. The personal information you provide is checked against the information we have on file to confirm that you are the authorized cardholder.
Will I have to enter my personal information when shopping online?
No, once your card has been registered with the MasterCard SecureCode service, the only information you will be asked to provide when shopping online is your SecureCode.
If I supply my e-mail adress during registration how will it be used?
In accordance with the privacy policy, your e-mail will only be used to send you important SecureCode service notifications.
Can I register more than one card at a time so that all have the same SecureCode?
No. Each MasterCard card must be registered separately so that it has its own SecureCode.
Is my SecureCode case sensitive?
Yes, the SecureCode makes a distinction between lower case and upper case letters.
What is a Personal Greeting?
The Personal Greeting is a message that you create during the registration process. Each time you make an online purchase at a participating merchant, a small window will pop up and ask you to enter your SecureCode. In that window, you'll see your Personal Greeting and other purchase details. The Personal Greeting is your assurance that you are communicating with, and submitting your SecureCode to, your card issuer. If the Personal Greeting displayed in the pop-up window is incorrect, do not enter your SecureCode: contact one of our customer service representatives at
1-888-9MY-CARD (1-888-969-2273) or 514-394-1427.
What should I do if I have questions during the registration process?
If you have questions or need assistance during the registration process, you should contact one of our customer service representatives at 1-888-9MY-CARD (1-888-969-2273) or 514-394-1427.
Why do I get a pop-up window asking me to register for MasterCard's SecureCode service when I never asked?
When shopping online at a participating merchant, you will automatically be asked to register for MasterCard's SecureCode service when making your purchase. This service is totally free for all MasterCard cardholders and gives you additional protection against unauthorized use of your card.
Will the merchant have access to the personal information I supply during the registration?
No, all personal information you supply during the SecureCode registration process remains confidential.
Shopping with your SecureCode

How do I use my SecureCode?
When you make an online purchase at a participating merchant and enter your MasterCard payment details, a window will automatically pop up from your card issuer requesting your SecureCode. After reviewing the details of your purchase and confirming that your Personal Greeting (see “What is a Personal Greeting?”) is correct, simply enter your SecureCode to complete the purchase.
How will SecureCode impact my purchase?
Aside from the added protection that SecureCode provides, the only impact on your purchase is that you will need to type in your SecureCode when the request window pops up and then wait a few seconds while your card issuer confirms your identity.
Do I have to log in or do anything before shopping online?
No. MasterCard's SecureCode works automatically with all participating merchants. There is no special login required. Simply shop online as you normally do, enter the registered card payment information, and when you are at the final step of your purchase on a participating merchant's site, the SecureCode request window will pop up automatically. If the merchant doesn’t offer SecureCode service, use your MasterCard to make your purchase as you normally would.
Can I start shopping with my SecureCode as soon as I register?
Yes. You can start using your SecureCode with participating online merchants immediately after completing your registration. No waiting period is necessary.
What should I do if I purchase online but no SecureCode request window appears?
  1. Make sure you are entering the payment information for your registered card.
  2. Make sure the merchant is participating by clicking on the SecureCode logo displayed on the merchant website.
  3. Be sure you have disabled any pop-up blocking software on your computer.
  4. Be sure your Internet settings are set to enable Java Script.
How can I enable Java from my Internet browser?
Most of the Internet browsers provide a menu allowing you to change options and special settings. If you do not know how to enable Java from your Internet browser, you can use the context-sensitive help and type in "How to activate Java".
How can I disable pop-up blocking software on my computer?
You can disable your pop-up blocking software from a menu located in your Internet browser. If you do not know how to disable your pop-up blocking software, you can use the context-sensitive help and type in "How to disable pop-up blocking software".
Can I purchase from merchants that accept MasterCard but do not participate in the MasterCard?
Yes, but you will not be asked for your SecureCode at these merchants’ sites. To complete your purchase, simply follow the standard checkout process.
How will the online merchant know that my card is protected by MasterCard SecureCode?
As is the case for standard transactions, the online merchant transmits an authorization request to MasterCard to confirm the transaction. When your card is protected by SecureCode, a special mechanism allows MasterCard to recognize your card and to pop up a small SecureCode window that you use to enter your SecureCode.
Can I view a record of my SecureCode purchases?
To view a list of all purchases authenticated with your SecureCode, return to the home page of the MasterCard SecureCode site, click the "Account Management" tab and log in to view your SecureCode transaction history.

You should return to the home page of the MasterCard SecureCode site and click the "Register Now" button. You will then be able to re-register for the SecureCode service. If you have questions or are experiencing difficulties, contact one of our customer service representatives
at 1-888-9MY CARD (1-888-969-2273) or 514-394-1427.
What should I do if my Personal Greeting is missing or incorrect?

What if my spouse and I have different Personal Greetings?
When doing your online transaction, the SecureCode request box will allow you to select your Personal Greeting from a dropdown list. You must select your own Personal Greeting since it is linked to your SecureCode. If you select an incorrect Personal Greeting, MasterCard will not be able to complete the authentication process and your transaction will be declined.

Participating merchants will display the MasterCard SecureCode logo on their site.
