Emergency medical care

Emergency medical care outside of your province of residence for up to $5,000,000 for each insured person.

Medical, paramedical and hospitalization expenses

  • Customary, reasonable and essential expenses in the region visited for emergency treatment of a medical condition occurring during a trip

Transportation and subsistence expenses

  • Transportation and subsistence expenses planned and approved by the assistance provider during the trip
  • Expenses for accommodations and meals if you must postpone your date of return because you or a travel companion suffered a medical condition requiring emergency medical care

All-inclusive

Our all-inclusive option offers you emergency medical care insurance and the following additional coverage:

Trip cancellation or delay

You could receive up to $2,500 if your trip is cancelled or postponed due to a covered cause 

  • Subsistence expenses (up to $250 per day for restaurants and hotels with a $500 maximum)  
  • Cost of changes to travel arrangements initiated by the carrier to allow you to reach the trip destination

Trip interruption

You could receive up to $5,000 if your trip is interrupted after departure due to a covered cause 

  • Subsistence expenses (up to $250 per day for restaurants and hotels with a $2,500 maximum)   
  • Cost of changes to travel arrangements initiated by the carrier to allow you to return to your point of departure

Baggage coverage

  • Up to $1,500 in the event of damaged, lost or stolen baggage  
  • Expenses for basic necessities (clothing and toiletries) if your flight is delayed by 6 hours or more  
  • Replacement fees for official travel documents (maximum of $150)

Accidental death and dismemberment

  • Up to $50,000 in the event of accidental death or dismemberment

Little details that matter

To be eligible, you must meet the eligibility criteria on your departure date.

  • Be aged from 31 days to 74 years on your departure date*
  • Be a client of National Bank or one of its subsidiaries or affiliates, or be an immediate family member of a client
  • Be a resident of Canada
  • Be covered by the health and hospitalization insurance plan of your province of residence throughout your trip
  • Sign up for travel insurance before you leave

*The total duration of the trip must not exceed the maximum duration of a trip depending on age:

  • for single trip:
    • 31 days to 54: 180 days
    • 55 to 69: 31 days
    • 70 to 74: 15 days
  • for annual plan:
    • 31 days to 69: 30 days
    • 70 to 74: 15 days

Certain restrictions and exclusions apply, depending on your age and pre-existing conditions.

You will be guided through the steps to follow so that you are well taken care of. This will ensure that you are reimbursed for all eligible health expenses incurred abroad.

 

To file a claim

Contact the assistance provider: As soon as any event covered by travel insurance occurs, contact the assistance provider at 1-844-783-7603 or 514-394-0075 (collect calls accepted) to confirm your coverage.

Fill out the form: The assistance provider will send you a claim form. You must fill out the form and return it as soonas possible, ideally within 90 days of the event to which the claim relates.

You can also download the claim form from the CanAssistance website and find the information you need to submit your claim.

Provide requested documents:  The assistance provider may request supporting documents in order to complete the claim assessment. Return the requested documents within 90 days and no later than 1 year after the event to which the claim relates.
