Bursaries and summer jobs: The National Bank encourages students with physical or sensory disabilities to apply

Montreal, 5 February 2004 -

The National Bank is inviting students with physical or sensory disabilities who would like a 12-week summer job and a $2,000 bursary to apply for its Bursary and Summer Employment Program before March 5, 2004.

This Bursary and Summer Employment Program for university and college students with physical or sensory disabilities offers rewarding jobs and allows recipients to gain work experience that ties in with their studies. Two bursaries of $2,000 each plus a 12-week summer job are awarded to university students in New Brunswick, Quebec or Ontario, while college students in Quebec are eligible for a bursary of $1,000 and a 10-week summer job.

A selection committee comprised of a member of the Bank's senior management, representatives from the community and the academic milieu, and a physician will evaluate the applications. The main criteria considered in the selection process are work experience, community involvement and an excellent academic record.

Students are encouraged to apply before March 5, 2004 either on-line at or by completing the forms which are available at colleges, universities and specialized organizations.

To highlight the Program's 15th year, the National Bank will create an internal committee for the integration of persons with physical or sensory disabilities made up of employees and the 2004 bursary recipients. Their mandate will be to make recommendations concerning best practices for the integration in the workplace of persons with physical or sensory disabilities. "We believe that the creation of this committee will enable us to better understand the situation of persons with physical or sensory disabilities. This initiative confirms the National Bank's commitment as an employer of choice to fully meet the needs and expectations of people with physical or sensory disabilities," stated France Pelletier, Manager – Employment Equity and Diversity at the National Bank.
