Jean Douville appointed Chairman of the Board of National Bank of Canada

Montreal, 11 March 2004 -

Following his re-election as a member of the Board of Directors of National Bank at the Annual Meeting of Shareholders on March 10, 2004, Jean Douville was elected Chairman of the Board.

Mr. Douville is a lawyer and a seasoned corporate executive. He is Chairman of the Board of UAP Inc., a firm specialized in the distribution and remanufacturing of replacement automotive parts and accessories for cars, trucks and industrial machinery. He was President and Chief Executive Officer of UAP Inc. for over 20 years. Mr. Douville has been a member of the Board of National Bank since 1991, and is Chair of the Conduct Review and Corporate Governance Committee. He also chaired the Audit and Risk Management Committee for two years. Recognized for his integrity, he sits on the boards of various Canadian and U.S. companies.
