National Bank honoured at OCTAS Gala

Montreal, 14 June 2004 -

At the 18th OCTAS Gala, National Bank took home the OCTAS award in the “Business Solutions (201+ employees)” category for the excellence of its Invest and Grow project, designed to enhance service to credit card holders and prevent fraud.

Launched in 2002, the project included the development of new, leading-edge technology to improve targeting of offers and pricing based on the cardholder's profile. The technology also made it possible to implement statistical models to detect credit card fraud and offer more personalized customer communications.

“Some customers use the Internet to do their day-to-day banking while others are still hesitant to use ABMs to pay bills.   With the technological improvements we have made, we can better understand our customers' transaction behaviour in order to offer them products and services that are a perfect fit with their needs,” said Rubina Havlin, Vice-President of Electronic Payment Solutions at National Bank.

These improvements have also allowed the Bank to make great strides in detecting fraud. “By having more clearly defined customer profiles, it is easier to detect unusual transactions, which we can verify directly with the customer,” said Ms. Havlin.

The Bank was also a finalist in the “Business Solutions” category for a large-scale technology project it completed in less than nine months. The product and service sales platform was designed for the Bank's employees and business partners in Quebec and the rest of Canada.   Employees of the Bank and its partners, such as Investors Group, London Life Insurance Company and Great-West Life Assurance Company, can now use this Web-based platform to submit loan applications, open accounts and make investments. A virtual branch analyzes each application and sends out a response within 24 hours.

The OCTAS Gala is organized by the Fédération de l'informatique du Québec to recognize organizations, companies and individuals for their creativity, vitality and exceptional contribution to the growth of the industry.
