National Bank Financial announced today that it has appointed Gerald C. Throop as Executive Vice President and Managing Director, Global Institutional Equities. Mr. Throop will be responsible for the equity sales and trading activities in Toronto, Montreal, Vancouver, Boston, New York, London and Geneva.
Mr. Throop brings a wealth of experience in the Canadian capital markets, having served in senior management for some of Canada’s largest investment dealers. Before joining National Bank Financial, he was President of Blackmont Capital Inc., the securities dealer subsidiary of Rockwater Capital Corporation. Prior to Blackmont, Mr. Throop held a number of senior positions in the investment dealer industry, including six years as EVP and Head of Equities for Merrill Lynch Canada and its predecessor Midland Walwyn, as well as three years as Partner with Gordon Capital. In his various roles, he has worked in and managed all aspects of the capital markets business, including sales and trading, research, equity capital markets and investment banking.
“Gerry is a tremendous addition to National Bank Financial. He is widely recognized as a leader in the financial markets in Canada. As a member of our senior management team, he will be able to have an impact beyond our Institutional Equities business,” said Ricardo Pascoe, co-President and co-CEO of National Bank Financial Group.
Gerry Throop added: “I am delighted to be joining a firm that is large enough to deliver a complete range of services to its clients, but small enough to encourage an entrepreneurial and cooperative culture. I look forward to being a part of the team that is making National Bank Financial a leader in providing financing and risk management solutions to Canadian corporations and institutions.”
Mr. Throop holds an MBA from Harvard University as well as a Bachelor of Mathematics from the University of Waterloo and is a chartered accountant. His full time responsibilities at National Bank Financial will begin on August 1, 2007.
