National Bank donates $10,000 to GRIS-Montreal to mark the 5th anniversary of Aires Libres

Montreal, 6 June 2012 -

National Bank presents for the third consecutive year the artistic happening Aires Libres which will take place this year from May 17 to September 3. To celebrate the event’s 5th edition and the 30th anniversary of Montreal’s Gay Village, National Bank will make a $10,000 donation to GRIS-Montreal (Groupe de Recherche et d'Intervention Sociale), an organization working to fight homophobia through the school system.

“The Aires Libres project is especially important for the Bank and its employees because it emphasizes our commitment to promoting diversity. Whether it’s through our human resources practices or our partnerships with other organizations or events such as Aires Libres, we strive to contribute to the development of an inclusive society,” explained Nicole GauronPhavorachith, Manager of the National Bank Branch at Place Dupuis.

The Bank will play a special role in this year's event with the "Aire Banque Nationale" conceptual zone, located at the corner of Wolfe and St. Catherine, and the National Bank MasterCard stand where visitors will be offered free ice pops and lemony water on June 15-17, July 13-15 and August 24-26. In addition, artist Louis Gagnon’s installation artwork is back and features a renewed message in keeping with the 2012 edition that engages the viewer and echoes the theme of reclaiming urban areas espoused by Aire Libres.

Every year, through its donations and sponsorships program and the initiatives of its employees, National Bank helps support hundreds of organizations across Canada. It focuses primarily on four main areas of activity – health, education, arts and culture, and community outreach – with the goal of generating positive benefits for communities.
