National Bank gives close to $435,000 to the Red Cross Tsunami Relief Fund

Montreal, 16 February 2005 -

National Bank has given close to $435,000 to the Canadian Red Cross to support the organization in its efforts to help the victims of the earthquake and tidal waves that ravaged Asia in December.

The amount consists of donations collected from Bank employees and clients up to February 9 and a corporate donation of $145,000 from the Bank and its subsidiaries.

“We are extremely proud to have been able to use our branches to collect donations for the communities affected by the tsunami,” explained Réal Raymond, President and Chief Executive Officer of National Bank.  “This is just one more example of how our clients and employees can always be counted on in times of need to help those less fortunate,” he added.

Within days of the catastrophe, the Bank stepped in to help the Canadian Red Cross in its fundraising efforts. Among other initiatives, it offered National Bank MasterCard clients the opportunity to turn their reward points into a donation. It also launched a poster campaign in its branch network to remind the public that they could make donations at any National Bank branch.
