Student from Saint-Hilaire Awarded National Bank Bursary
National Bank of Canada is proud to present a $2,000 bursary and paid 12-week summer job to Dominic Morin as part of its 16th annual Bursary and Summer Employment Program for students with a physical or sensory disability.
Mr. Morin, who hails from Saint-Hilaire, Quebec, was selected from among a number of candidates by a jury made up of university administrators and representatives from service organizations for persons with disabilities. Mr. Morin, 24, is currently working towards his Bachelor’s degree in translation at the Université de Montréal as well as contributing to his community by giving talks in primary and secondary schools on the social integration of persons with disabilities. In addition to offering him valuable financial support, the Bank’s bursary and summer employment program will help him acquire professional experience in his field of study.
National Bank of Canada encourages all students with physical or sensory disabilities to strive for their goals, and recognizes that the road to success can be difficult, especially considering the challenges presented by the academic and work worlds.
Under the Bank’s Bursary and Summer Employment Program, two bursaries of $2,000 plus a paid 12-week summer job are awarded to university students in Ontario, Quebec or New Brunswick, while college students in Quebec are eligible for a bursary of $1,000 and a 10-week summer job.
Since its launch in 1989, the National Bank Bursary and Summer Employment Program has helped more than 50 college- and university-level students with physical or sensory disabilities develop their skills. Recipients acquire stimulating work experience in an area relating to their studies. It also raises awareness among the Bank’s employees of the realities of living with a disability.
