National Bank employees raise $63,400 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada

Montreal, 22 September 2006 -

National Bank employees in the Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, Quebec City and Eastern Quebec regions are proud to have collected $63,400 for Muscular Dystrophy Canada.

Employees in the Quebec City and Eastern Quebec region sold close to 11,000 bracelets bearing the organization’s effigy in branches throughout the region. In addition, on September 10, about 100 Bank employees contributed to their colleagues’ efforts by taking part in Dystro-Marche, a 5-k walk through the streets of Jonquière, to raise funds for muscular dystrophy research. Two National Bank employees were honorary chairs of the event: Martine Labrecque, Manager - Commercial Banking/Agriculture, and Mario Cantin, Regional Manager – Saguenay-Lac St-Jean/North Shore.

The funds collected during these activities will help improve the quality of life of Canadians living with neuromuscular disorders, and finance research aimed at discovering new treatments.

In 2005, the Bank and its subsidiaries, through corporate donations, sponsorships, in-branch fundraising activities and various benefit events, gave $18 million to hundreds of Canadian education, health care, cultural and community organizations.
