$415,000 for Quebec women’s health : Two organizations band together for a future without breast cancer
The Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation is pleased to have received a major donation of $415,000 from National Bank, raised through the Allure MasterCard and its cardholders. For a third consecutive year, the exceptional support of this exemplary partner is helping the Foundation to tackle the problem on several fronts: by supporting Quebec research projects, providing support to those living with breast cancer and promoting breast health. A quick reminder that, thanks to the cardholders of the National Bank Allure MasterCard, over $1 million has been donated to the Foundation since 2006. This record sum makes a significant and tangible contribution to the battle against breast cancer, which affects one in nine women in the country.
Much more than a financial partner, National Bank has invested in a breast health awareness program known as the Allure Rendez-vous. Since fall 2007, in fact, this initiative has taken inspiring and energetic guest speakers to every corner of the province, delivering their message of hope. Over 500 women have had the opportunity to meet health professionals and breast cancer survivors, and learn more about the importance of taking a hands-on approach to their health. For the Foundation, this provincial conference program, established by National Bank, is an extraordinary addition to Harmonie, its awareness and education program that delivers concrete information to women on healthy lifestyle choices and breast health habits they need to adopt in terms of preventing the disease.
“Without National Bank’s involvement, it would be difficult for the Foundation to visit outlying regions, a program it is now able to carry out thanks to the Allure Rendez-Vous. Through the support of vital partnerships, such as the one with National Bank, which both provides financial support and offers awareness raising activities, significant headway in the fight against breast cancer is made possible. In fact, statistics are encouraging since the breast cancer survival rate has risen by 25 percent in the past 20 years, due in part to healthier lifestyle habits and progress in the area of research. In 2008, the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation will have available $4 million in funds for various research projects, raising the total amount of investments in Quebec research to $14 million since its inception in 1994,” explained France Margaret Bélanger, Chair of the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation.
“National Bank Financial Group is deeply committed to women, who, in fact, make up 80 percent of our staff,” stated Paolo Pizutto, Vice-President Electronic Payment Solutions. “We are intent on contributing to breast cancer prevention, research funding in this area and women’s overall well-being,” he added.
The Allure of health and beauty
The National Bank Allure MasterCard is designed specifically for women. First, a percentage of the purchases made by cardholders is donated to a cause that directly affects them. In addition, they can enjoy a 10 percent discount on purchases at over 250 participating retail outlets, including San Francisco, Terra Nostra, La Vie en Rose, Aqua, marie claire boutiques, CF and Émotions. Other partners also offer attractive promotions. To remind women of their support for the Quebec Breast Cancer Foundation, the card bears the popular pink ribbon, the Foundation’s logo.
