National Bank Financial donates $75,000 to CANFAR for AIDS research
National Bank Financial, a subsidiary of National Bank Financial Group, is pleased to donate $75,000 to CANFAR, the Canadian Foundation for AIDS Research.
This donation will help CANFAR pursue its mission of raising public awareness and generating funds for research into all aspects of HIV infection and AIDS. Since its inception in 1987, CANFAR has contributed $15 million to fund 328 start-up and small-scale research projects at hospitals and universities across the country.
Each year, CANFAR works with its Scientific Advisory Committee composed of eminent Canadian specialists to determine the significant research studies to be funded. CANFAR’s role is to provide the necessary “seed capital” for promising projects that would otherwise not be financed. Recent successful projects include investigations of microbicides, and reducing mother-to-child HIV transmission, just two of the areas where Canada is a world leader in HIV/AIDS research.
In 2007, through corporate donations, sponsorships, in-branch fundraising activities and various benefit events, National Bank Financial Group gave more than $20 million to hundreds of Canadian education, health care, cultural and community organizations.
