5,000 trees planted in Quebec thanks to National Bank Insurance’s Drive Eco program

Montreal, 28 October 2008 -

Since the Drive Eco program was launched in September 2007, National Bank Insurance has reached its goal of planting more than 5,000 trees in different municipalities across Quebec.

Young drivers aged 16 to 35 who signed up for a 2-year automobile insurance policy had trees planted on their behalf, based on the type of vehicle they own, in order to offset a portion of the CO2 emissions it generates.

As a result of this environmentally friendly initiative, National Bank Insurance was able to reforest 5 hectares throughout the province, about the size of 10 football fields. These rehabilitated green spaces, where a variety of trees have been planted, will trap around 825 tonnes of CO2 and benefit different communities. Not only has this initiative contributed to improving air quality, it has also beautified the urban landscape of many municipalities in Quebec.

In 2007, National Bank Insurance showed it was willing to help the environment by introducing “The less you drive, the less you pay” concept, which rewards drivers who use their vehicles less frequently by saving them money. “We have always rewarded drivers with a good record, who drive carefully and more slowly. Through this program, we are delighted that we have helped make our clients more aware of the importance of protecting our environment,” said Danielle Aubin, Vice-President – Operations at National Bank Insurance.
