National Bank raises $132,000 for West Island Community Shares
National Bank is proud to present $132,000 to West Island Community Shares for this organization’s 2011-2012 fundraising campaign. Funds were collected by National Bank branch and regional centre employees in Western Montreal through the Dream Vacation contest, a draw for prizes including trips, getaways to country inns and restaurant gift cards. The 15 winners of this year contest were announced on December 61.
The Dream Vacation contest is one of the most important fundraising activities for West Island Community Shares. Since 2003, the various fundraising activities organized have enabled the Bank to collect about $500,000 for this organization. This was the third year that the region raised funds for the organization that provides funding to 35 community support groups in Montreal’s West Island, which in turn help more than 28,000 residents every year. “Branch and regional centre employees are very happy to play an active role in the community where they work every day,” said Carole Derome, Regional Manager – Western Montreal, National Bank. “They committed themselves enthusiastically again this year to make sure the Dream Vacation contest was a success, and the results exceeded their expectations. I’m very proud of all the participants and employees who helped make this fundraiser a resounding success. Thank you.”
National Bank has a large presence in the West Island. With about 300 employees, some 15 branches and millions of dollars granted in financing, the Bank plays a leading role in the area’s economic development. Given that economic development is closely tied to social development and quality of life for the members of a community, supporting education and community outreach are ingrained in the culture of National Bank and its employees.
Through its donations and sponsorships program and the initiatives of its employees, National Bank helps support hundreds of organizations across Canada. It focuses primarily on four main areas of activity – health, education, arts and culture, and community outreach – with the goal of generating positive benefits for communities.
