The National Bank makes an exceptional $1 million donation to the Pointe-à-Callière Foundation’s Major Fundraising Campaign

Montreal, 1 November 2013 -

The Pointe-à-Callière Foundation is pleased to announce that it has received an exceptional $1 million gift, spread over 10 years, from the National Bank as part of its very first fundraising campaign.

Mariners' House – National Bank Building
The National Bank is convinced of the importance of protecting and showcasing the buildings and other traces illustrating Montréal’s past, and wishes to underscore its appreciation for history by associating its name with the Mariners' House. This building, a place for all, offers a variety of experiences for visitors. Boasting cutting-edge facilities, it houses the Archaeo-Adventure workshop, presents large temporary exhibitions and hosts lectures and cultural activities, in addition to offering some of Montréal’s loveliest multifunctional rooms for rent. The building, Phase 1 in the development of the Montréal Archaeology and History Complex, is already a versatile space promising a unique museum experience in magnificent surroundings. It is linked underground with the rest of the Museum.

“As a history enthusiast, I am proud to serve as Co-Chair of the Major Fundraising Campaign. The Museum is doing an admirable job of bringing Montréal’s past to life and making it accessible. This donation by the National Bank is a concrete expression of our support for the work of the Museum and the Pointe-à-Callière Foundation to protect and showcase our collective heritage,” said Louis Vachon, President and CEO of the National Bank.

“By supporting the Mariners' House, this gift from the National Bank gives us valuable leverage so that we can continue to create the Montréal Archaeology and History Complex. Pointe-à-Callière safeguards and showcases exceptional historic and archaeological sites, and the support of the National Bank gives us a solid foundation for our mission of bringing people not just to understand, but also to appreciate our past, our history, our roots,” explained Foundation President Russell Goodman.
