Overdraft protection

Overdraft protection is an effective precaution and an excellent cash management tool. Overdraft protection may be ideal for you if one of the following situations applies:

  • your transaction account is active
  • you use your Interac direct payment card to make purchases
  • automatic withdrawals are debited from your transaction account
  • you want to avoid the inconvenience and cost associated with NSF cheques
  • you do not want your debit card purchases refused.

Overdraft protection provides a safety net against a cash shortfall, by drawing the missing cash from another of your eligible products that does have sufficient funds ($5 fee for transfers).

By signing up for this service, you avoid account overdrafts by obtaining the necessary cash to cover cheques, electronic funds transfers, purchases with the Client Card, withdrawals, transfers and bill payments made via ABM or through a TelNat agent.

With your authorization, the overdraft is covered by funds transferred from one of your transaction accounts, your personal line of credit, or by a direct cash advance from your MasterCard.

Authorized overdraft

The Integrated Line of Credit puts between $500 and $5,000 at your disposal so you always have enough to make ends meet and pay unexpected expenses, or to take you're dream vacation. It also protects you against account overdrafts.

An account statement is issued monthly. The line of credit bears interest from the time it is used. The minimum monthly payment is limited to monthly interest charges and any insurance premiums. The applicable interest rate is National Bank of Canada's prime rate* + 7%,.

The applicable rate is based on the prime rate and is therefore subject to change.

1 Subject to credit approval by National Bank of Canada.
* Prime rate means the variable annual interest rate that the Bank publishes from time to time as a benchmark, and which is used to determine the interest rate on Canadian dollar demand loans granted by the Bank in Canada.

Account statement

Single account statement

With the single account statement, you get an overview of most of your National Bank activities: transaction accounts, lines of credit and registered (RRSP) and non-registered GICs.

Information on GICs held in your registered and non-registered accounts with National Bank, Natcan Trust Company and National Bank Trust (non-registered GICs only) has been added to the single statement. Details concerning your GICs, transaction confirmations and maturity notices are now conveniently grouped together in one document.

Online statement

Replace the paper statement mailed to you each month with the new online statement at no additional cost.

By subscribing to the online statement, you'll reduce the amount of paper used and still have 24/7 access to your statements via Internet Banking Solutions.
