What is a credit file?

A credit file is a report containing information on your credit history and payment habits. When you apply to borrow money, your creditors examine your file in order to determine whether or not you handle credit responsibly.

Can I consult my credit file?

As a consumer, you have the right to consult your credit file at any time. In fact, it's a good idea for you to do so, in order to have an idea of the information it contains.

Equifax Canada allows you to consult your file online, for a small fee.

You can also download a paper form to order the report by mail at no charge. For more information, refer to Equifax Canada's list of Frequently Asked Questions.
