Non-registered: simple interest is paid according to the frequency chosen e.g., monthly, semi-annually or annually. RESP: compound interest is calculated annually on the anniversary date and paid at maturity. TFSA: simple interest is paid annually. Unless otherwise indicated by the client, GICs invested in an RRSP or in a non-registered investment (not in an RRSP) will, upon maturity, be automatically renewed for the same amount (principal and interest) for the desired term and at the interest rate in effect.
