An exchange rate increase (%) applicable to foreign currency transactions carried out using the client card was also added to the guide. This increase stays the same. We’re doing everything in our power to keep our rates competitive.
We’re making certain pricing adjustments to enhance our offer so that you can get the best price and benefit from our products and services.
Here are some examples of recent improvements we’ve made to our pricing and packages:
To start, we’ve eliminated monthly fees for our Internet Banking Solutions for Businesses (though monthly fees will remain for large businesses).
To reduce your monthly fees even further, you can:

At National Bank, providing payment solutions geared to your needs is our priority. Effective June 1, 2023, we’re enhancing the benefits associated with your credit card. Your annual fees will also be adjusted.
You can find the summaries and certificates of insurance that will be valid until 1 June, 2023 on our insurance documentation page.
We’ve reviewed and enhanced how points are earned in certain purchase categories. You may now be able to earn more points by spending the same amount. Points will still be redeemed for the same value. Your points balance will be maintained.
Here are the categories affected and the points earned for purchases at an eligible merchant:
Up to 2 points per dollar in purchases, in accordance with applicable conditions1 (see enclosed table for details)
1.5 points per dollar in purchases2
1.5 points per dollar in purchases3
1.5 points per dollar in purchases4
1 point per $1.50 in purchases5
The new accumulation rate will apply the day after your June 2023 billing date.
In addition to using the À la carte TravelTM agency, you can now redeem points to reimburse travel expenses:
Plane, train, or bus tickets
Car rentals
Hotels and lodging costs
Cruises, excursions, and camping
And much more
In addition to your existing coverage, you will enjoy new insurance coverage for purchases charged to your card starting June 1, 2023:
Mobile device coverage for two years6
Trip cancellation and interruption, flight delay and baggage delay or loss of baggage insurance
Out-of-province medical/hospital insurance
See enclosed table for details.
Your insurance certificate number is changing to reflect these amendments; it is now 713705-11. Consult the document.
Check if the fee increase applies to your situation in the personalized letter or email that was sent to you.
Check out all the cards we offer and find the one that's best for you. Applications for new cards are subject to credit approval by National Bank.
1. For a full list of Mastercard codes associated with eligible merchants, download the terms and conditions of the À la carte Rewards Plan®.
2. To earn 1.5 points per dollar in purchases, you will need to purchase gas or an electrical vehicle charge from a service station or from certain big box stores. For a full list of Mastercard codes associated with eligible merchants, download the terms and conditions of the À la carte Rewards Plan.
3. Recurring bill payments are defined as monthly or regular payments automatically charged by a merchant to your National Bank® Edition® with rewards program Mastercard ® credit card or your National Bank® Escapade® Mastercard® credit card. Not all merchants offer recurring bill payments, and not all recurring payments are considered recurring bill payments. Certain payments therefore may not entitle you to earn more points.
4. To earn 1.5 points per dollar in purchases, you must make your eligible purchases via the À la carte TravelTM Agency section of our À la carte™ Rewards site.
5. For example, if each month you charge $400 in groceries, $200 in gas, $100 in recurring bill payments and $150 in other purchases to your card, your $850 in purchases will earn you 1,350 points, as follows: 800 points for grocery purchases (since the total gross monthly amount is $850, i.e., under $1,000), 300 points for gas purchases, 150 points for recurring bill payments and 100 points for other purchases.
6. The device must have been purchased using your National Bank® Edition® with rewards program Mastercard ® credit card or your National Bank® Escapade® Mastercard® credit card, or your phone plan must be paid via recurring payments charged to your Edition® with rewards program Mastercard ® credit card or your Escapade® Mastercard® credit card, starting June 1, 2023.

On June 30, 2022, we will change and simplify our contracts for the deposit accounts, investment accounts, lines of credit and credit cards. We will also set up electronic alerts and postal notifications for your products.
New electronic alerts
With these alerts, you’ll avoid unpleasant surprises: we’ll notify you if your balance or available credit reaches a certain amount for a bank account, a line of credit or a credit card. Starting June 30, you’ll be able to manage these alerts yourself and change the amount for the alerts in your online bank and National Bank app.
Notifications for the end of a promotion or to renew your GIC
You will receive postal notifications prior to the maturity date of your promotion or Guaranteed Investment Certificate (GIC). This will allow you to anticipate your GIC renewal well in advance of its maturity date.
Contracts will be easier to understand
We know that contracts are not the easiest documents to read, and they include various clauses. We’ve made the contracts for deposit accounts and credit cards as simple as possible, so that you can better understand and refer to them. Please note that this revision does not change the meaning of the clauses in these contracts.
Current version, in effect until June 29, 2022 |
New version, in effect as of June 30, 2022 |

3.3. New: Electronic alerts If you have provided us with an email address, we will send you an electronic alert when the balance in your account falls below $100 or any other amount you choose. It will also be possible to receive an electronic alert on your cell phone when this service becomes available. You can choose to opt-out of receiving electronic alerts or change your preferences (including the amount set for the alert) via online banking services. |

3. g. Exchange rate for foreign currency transactions Foreign currency debit card transactions are converted into Canadian dollars at the rate and based on the conversion method determined by the network used. We apply a 2.5% charge to the conversion rate used by this network.

1. The amount of points earned on grocery and restaurant purchases depends on the total gross monthly amount charged to the credit card account, regardless of the purchase category. You will earn 2 points for every dollar in eligible grocery and restaurant purchases until a total of $1,000 in gross monthly purchases is charged to the account. After that, you will earn 1.5 points per dollar in eligible grocery and restaurant purchases. The total gross monthly amount is calculated based on your monthly billing period. Grocery purchases include any purchase made at a store that primarily sells food, i.e., grocery store, delicatessen, supermarket, greengrocer or speciality food store. Ready-to-eat meal services and meal delivery services are eligible. This definition excludes purchases made at retail stores and big box stores whose core business is the sale of non-food items. Certain merchants may sell products and services that appear identical or similar to those sold by eligible merchants, or may be separate merchants located on the same premises as eligible merchants, but are classified in different categories by Mastercard. For purchases at other merchants, you will only earn regular rewards points. Restaurant purchases include purchases at a restaurant, fast food restaurant, bar, nightclub or pub.
Certain merchants may sell products and services that appear identical or similar to those sold by eligible merchants, or may be separate merchants located on the same premises as eligible merchants, but are classified in different categories by Mastercard. For purchases at other merchants, you will only earn regular rewards points. For a full list of Mastercard codes associated with eligible merchants, download the terms and conditions of the À la carte Rewards Plan®.
3. Recurring bill payments are defined as monthly or regular payments automatically charged by a merchant to your National Bank Platinum Mastercard credit card. Not all merchants offer recurring bill payments, and not all recurring payments are considered recurring bill payments. Certain payments therefore may not entitle you to earn more points.
4. When transactions are indicated as being included, they are included as long as the maximum number of transactions included in the package has not been reached. Any transaction over the maximum as well as any transaction or service that is not indicated in the table but for which our pricing guide sets out fees will be charged based on the applicable pricing for your account or based on the general pricing set out in the “Breakdown of Service Charges” section.
5. To earn 1.5 points per dollar in purchases, you must make your eligible purchases via the À la carte TravelTM Agency section of our À la carte RewardsTM site.
7. The device must have been purchased using your National Bank Platinum Mastercard credit card, or your phone plan must be paid via recurring payments charged to your National Bank Platinum credit card starting September 1, 2022.
8. The amount of points earned on grocery and restaurant purchases depends on the total gross monthly amount charged to the credit card account, regardless of the purchase category. You will earn 5 points for every dollar in eligible grocery and restaurant purchases until a total of $2,500 in gross monthly purchases is charged to the account. After that, you will earn 2 points per dollar in eligible grocery and restaurant purchases. The total gross monthly amount is calculated based on your monthly billing period. Grocery purchases include any purchase made at a store that primarily sells food, i.e., grocery store, delicatessen, supermarket, greengrocer or speciality food store. For a full list of Mastercard codes associated with eligible merchants, download the terms and conditions of the À la carte Rewards Plan®.
9. Certain banking correspondents may collect additional fees from the wire transfer sent.
10. In USD if the wire transfer is in USD.
11. Wire transfer fees are calculated on the amount sent and converted into the currency of the account (USD or CAD).
12. To benefit from this offer, newcomers must sign up no later than
60 months after their arrival in Canada.
14. To earn 2 points per dollar in purchases, you will need to purchase gas or an electrical vehicle charge from a service station or from certain big box stores. 16. To earn 2 points per dollar in purchases, you must make your eligible purchases via the À la carte TravelTM Agency section of our À la carte RewardsTM site.
17. For example, if each month you charge $400 in groceries, $200 in gas, $100 in recurring bill payments and $150 in other purchases to your card, your $850 in purchases will earn you 2,750 points, as follows: 2,000 points for grocery purchases (since the total gross monthly amount is $850, i.e., under $2,500), 400 points for gas purchases, 200 points for recurring bill payments and 150 points for other purchases.
18. The device must have been purchased using your National Bank World Elite Mastercard credit card, or your phone plan must be paid via recurring payments charged to your National Bank World Elite credit card starting September 1, 2022.
