The Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence (FAEQ) is proud to be celebrating its long, close and fruitful partnership with National Bank as the 30th edition of the National Bank Bursary Program is held today. Individual bursaries totaling $126,000 were awarded to 38 student athletes.
During a live event on its Facebook page, with the support of TVGO, the FAEQ handed out bursaries of $2,000 and $4,000 to student athletes identified in the Hopeful, Elite or Excellence categories by their sports federations. The recipients are all aged from 15 to 24 and come from all over Quebec.
“This year marks the 30th edition of the National Bank Bursary
Program, and we are proud to celebrate this important milestone with
the Foundation. As a former bursary recipient when I was training as
an athlete, I can vouch for the positive impact that FAEQ bursaries
have on the lives of student athletes and how important it is to
support academic excellence. I wish all bursary recipients this year
the best of luck as they reach their goals.”
- Martine Dessureault, Vice-President – Commercial Banking, Quebec City and Eastern Quebec, National Bank
“I’m delighted to be joining National Bank today to celebrate the triumphs of 38 student athletes, who have had to work extremely hard these past two years to juggle their academic and athletic success. I would also like to warmly thank National Bank for its support for our mission these past 30 years. Having National Bank by our side for the 30th edition of its bursary program is quite simply phenomenal.”
- Martin Lavigne, President of the Quebec Foundation for Athletic Excellence
The 30th edition of the National Bank Bursary Program has awarded 23 bursaries for academic excellence highlighting the academic achievements of student athletes and 15 bursaries to support academic and sporting success that aim to promote a balance between sport and studies.
Over the years, several of the student athletes supported by National Bank have distinguished themselves on the international scene. From this group, a special mention goes to weightlifter Maude Charron and her inspiring journey to the gold medal in the under 64 kg category at the 2020 Tokyo Olympic games.
Another recipient is freestyle skier Mikaël Kingsbury, who has had a number of recent successes including silver medalist at the 2022 Beijing Olympics and his 19th, 20th and 21st Crystal Globes on the World cup circuit. A final mention goes to tennis player Félix Auger-Aliassime who won his first ATP title.
This select group also includes para-swimmer Aurélie Rivard, para-athlete Diane Roy, cyclist Hugo Houle, cross-country skier Alex Harvey, boxer Ariane Fortin, weightlifter Christine Girard, speed skaters Marianne St-Gelais and Sylvie Daigle, hockey players Charline Labonté, Caroline Ouellette and Guillaume Latendresse as well as divers Jennifer Abel and Roseline Filion.
