How to search for a cheque?

How to find an issued cheque image:

  1. Sign in to online banking for business.

  2. On the home page, under Accounts and transactions, click on Accounts.

  3. Click on the desired transaction to display its details.

  4. At the bottom of the details window, click on the front or back of the cheque image to zoom in on it.

Good to know:

  • When searching for a cheque, you must always specify the date that the cheque was deposited (and not the date it was issued).

  • You can download or print a cheque image using your browser's built-in features.

  • Images usually become available around 2 days after a cheque has been deposited and remain available for up to 1 year.

How to retrieve a cheque image statement:

  1. Sign in to online banking for business.

  2. In the left menu, under Accounts and transactions, click Statements.

  3. Open the Select an account menu. Select one or more accounts. You can search by account name or number.

  4. Search and select at least one statement. You can narrow your search by choosing a category (account statements, cheque images or credit card statements) and a date range. The maximum range is two years.

  5. For a single download, click the Preview or Download icon next to the relevant statement. The file will be downloaded on your computer. For a multiple download, click the Download icon next to the number of selected statements. Once the file is ready to be downloaded, you will receive a notification in online banking for business. You can click the bell icon at the top right of the screen to see the notification and download the ZIP file.

How to find deposited cheque images:

Contact National Bank to get images of the cheques you’ve already deposited.

Note

In accordance with Payments Canada rules, the Bank creates an image of the cheque for clearing and settlement purposes. This image is considered an official image under the law and carries the same evidentiary value as the original paper cheque.
