Personal cards

4.1 Debit card

Your National Bank debit card allows you to:

  • perform ABM transactions;
  • make payments to merchants;
  • access your accounts through National Bank online banking, provided you are signed up.

At National Bank, only one debit card is issued per client. A National Bank debit card gives you access to up to three (3) accounts. These accounts are linked to the card based on the following positions:

  1. CHEQUING
  2. SAVINGS
  3. OTHER (account accessible only at National Bank ABMs)

Important: Only one account may be associated with the OTHER position.

4.1.1 Account access

Access to accounts and their position on the debit card are subject to the applicable National Bank terms and conditions, as described below, and can vary depending on your situation:

A. No debit card at Laurentian Bank

If you have an active Canadian dollar (CAD) bank account at Laurentian Bank for which you are a signatory but have no debit card issued by it, a National Bank debit card will be mailed to you.

This card will allow you to complete your day-to-day transactions and access National Bank online banking, provided you are signed up.

B. One debit card at Laurentian Bank

If you have only one debit card at Laurentian Bank, a National Bank debit card will be issued to you and linked to the same accounts and positions as your Laurentian Bank debit card, subject to the National Bank card limits.

C. More than one debit card at Laurentian Bank

If you have more than one debit card at Laurentian Bank, only one National Bank card will be issued to you. Priority will be given to the accounts for which you are the primary cardholder at Laurentian Bank.

D. National Bank debit card

If you already have an active debit card at National Bank, you will not be issued a new card.

If, at the time of migration, a position is available on your card, your migrated Laurentian Bank main account will be added to it, as follows:

  • If your card is already linked to an account in the CHEQUING position only, the migrated main account will be added to the SAVINGS position.
  • If your card is already linked to an account in the CHEQUING position and an account in the SAVINGS position, the migrated main account will be added to the OTHER position.

Your PIN and debit card will be mailed to you separately. You may refer to the card holder enclosed with your debit card, which specifies the accounts that can be accessed with your National Bank debit card.

4.1.2 Changes to your debit card accounts

After the migration, you can request changes to your debit card account position by contacting National Bank’s Client Experience Centre (CEC).
