Common transactions

You can activate your new National Bank Mastercard credit card online or by phone.  


In your online bank, select your credit card account then click on Activate my card in the dedicated banner. Once you have completed the information, click on Activate my card.

Is this your first National Bank credit card?

Your personal identification number (PIN) will be mailed separately from your card. If you haven't already done so, you will need to activate your card by following the instructions provided.

Renewing an expired card?

Your PIN will remain the same. Simply activate your card and start using it.

Want to change your PIN?

Change your PIN at any National Bank ABM.

Forgot your PIN?

To create a new PIN:

You can request a credit limit increase on your card at any time.

From your online bank:

  1. Click Overview.
  2. Select your credit card.
  3. Click Increase my credit limit.
  4. Follow the instructions.

You can also contact Mastercard Customer Service at 1-888-622-2783 to request a credit limit increase.

Do you have a rewards card or a cashback card? Earn rewards or cashbacks more quickly by adding an additional card to your account.

To make sure your cards don't get blocked, sending a travel notification by signing in to National Bank online and clicking "Online applications", or by opening the mobile app and selecting "Banking services."

Digital payments

Use contacless payment (formerly PayPass®) to pay without entering your PIN. Simply hold your card up to the terminal and you're good to go! National Bank credit cards allow contactless payments above $100 with participating merchants.


When it's time to pay, just open the app, choose a credit card and hold your iPhone or Apple Watch near the reader with your thumb on Touch ID.

To use this service, you'll need to download the latest versions of the National Bank app and iOS, watchOS or macOS.

Apple Pay

At participating merchants: simply hold your Android smartphone near the reader and wait for your payment confirmation.

In-app purchases: Select "Pay with Google Pay" when you complete your order.

Mastercard® ID CheckTM is a service that sends a one-time-use code by email or text to confirm it’s really you making the online purchase. Even if your credit card information is stolen, it won't be possible to make purchases without your code.

  • Temporarily lock your card until it can be found, or
  • Cancel it immediately and request a replacement card

1. Conversion fee calculations for transactions in a foreign currency have been modified (except for ABM transactions). The fee of 2.5% that was applied to amounts in USD is now applied to the amount converted to CAD. In all cases, foreign currency transactions are first converted to USD at the Mastercard Worldwide exchange rate.

2. Fee charged once each statement period if the balance exceeds the credit limit on the billing date. Not applicable for the World Elite card.
